Vale on January 8th 2001. On 13th/14th October the London Branch of Seido Karate celebrated its 10th year. With tuition from esteemed guests from New Zealand Shuseki Shihan Renzie Hanham and Shuseki Shihan Andy Barber, karateka from London, High Wycombe and Aylesbury Vale trained together to mark this milestone in the development of Seido UK. Guests included Kyoshi Roger Thyer-Jones, Sensei Meredith Sawyers, and founding members Senpai David Patterson, and Pat Fox (fossil). There were also a number of visitors from overseas including New York and New Zealand. We were also very proud to see Brandt Leitch promoted to Sensei, 4th dan following a private promotion examination with Shuseki Shihan Andy Barber in the morning. The Jamaican Experience by Roger Thyer-JonesAged 32, I found myself to be drifting languidly through life with an underlying feeling that the challenges I faced were inadequate for my restless spirit. In karate terms I felt that I had simply come to a halt in my development. My technical skills were not advancing much and my mental approach lacked focus and motivation. In short, after some 12 years training, including 4 years of Judo, I felt that I really knew little or nothing of real worth and that karate was not the vehicle for development that I thought it to be.
